Medical Projects

Breakthrough Technologies has extensive, hands-on experience supporting the Medical Device industry. Our engineers have developed software for over ten devices, including immunoassays, blood banking and molecular diagnostics.

Organ Recovery Systems, LifePort
The LifePort Kidney Transporter is now in routine use worldwide and has been recognized for excellence in design. Breakthrough designed a PC-based reporting interface "The LifePort Data station" to enable customers to easily access multiple devices, conduct remote monitoring, view trend data and easily manage complex data sets.

The application used the .NET development framework to run on any standard PC.

 High-volume Immunoassay Analyzer
Breakthrough's senior management team prototyped, simulated, architected and implemented the software systems used in one of the industry's leading immunoassay devices.

The team was involved from the start, assisting in the development and testing of the prototype and developing complex simulation software to evaluate a series of complex sample delivery mechanisms.

As primary architects for the project, the team ensured that all mechanical, electrical and chemical processes were tightly managed and controlled via the software interface through final stage FDA approval.

 Automated, High-Throughput Immunoassay Devices
Breakthrough's senior management team developed and managed the control software for a series of devices in the high-throughput clinical lab instruments.

Using real-time embedded software, the team supported multiple releases of functionality including flexible pipetting, bar-coding and data management, parallel processing and incubation.

Multi-line Drug Infusion Pump
Breakthrough's senior management successfully reverse engineered, documented and re-architected the software for one of the leading multi-line infusion pumps.

Originally written in Assembly language, the team carefully analyzed the software capabilities to ensure FDA approval, making key improvements in terms of operation and supportability.

Used in hospitals across the world, the device enabled formerly bedridden critical care patients with mobility via the device's portability.

Blood Bank Diagnostic Device
Breakthrough designed the software architecture and developed a number of subsystems for a leading blood banking device.

Integrating technologies include C, PLM and low-level device control, the device is a critical component to maintaining a safe blood supply throughout the world.
