ASSOCIATIONS & NON-PROFITS - Responsive Integrated Drupal Website

The Challenge

Unprecedented Membership Access, Powerful Content Management Highlight Redesigned Medical Society Website!

Integrated management system greatly enhances website experience for American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons!

Burdened with a website that was difficult to maintain, lacked a contemporary look, and failed to integrate well with their association management system, the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS) sought to improve the online experience for their more than 3,000 members. BT's deep skill in developing member-focused, responsive websites led to a new, powerful Drupal-based site that features enhanced search tools, a video library, membership application, renewal and dues-paying capabilities, and more.

What We Did:

•Integrated Drupal 7 with iMis 20 Engagement Management System
•Incorporated “surgeon finder” website feature

The ASCRS is the premier society for colon and rectal surgeons and other surgeons dedicated to advancing and promoting the science and practice of the treatment of patients with diseases and disorders affecting the colon, rectum and anus. More than 1,000 of the Society's 3,100 members are certified by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery.

The ASCRS believes in patient centered, high-quality, high-value health care. They achieve this care through professionalism, unique knowledge and skills, and the fellowship of the Society Members.

The Solution

The ASCRS – the premier society for colon and rectal surgeons – is dedicated to patient centered, high-quality, high-value health care which it achieves through professionalism, unique knowledge and skills, and the fellowship of its members.

Seeking a new website with a polished look and feel that would integrate flawlessly with the society’s association management system, the ASCRS chose BT because of our company’s deep experience developing member-focused, responsive websites for organizations and associations.

As part of the solution, BT partnered with Association Technologies, which specializes in providing comprehensive information and technology services for all nonprofit organizations. (Association Technologies manages the ASCRS association management system.)

“By partnering with Association Technologies we could more closely integrate the ASCRS website with the association management system, which would save the society time and effort, and provides a more seamless experience for their users,” says Kevin Leonard, BT's Association & Non-Profit Engagement Manager.

To simplify administrator editing of the new website, BT developers took advantage of the open-source Drupal-based content management system. Other features incorporated via Drupal included powerful search tools, a video library, news item promotion, disease specific sections, and a surgeon locator.

And through innovative integration with the iMis 20 engagement management system used by the ASCRS, BT enhanced the site’s membership application, renewal and dues-paying capabilities.

“Most interesting about this site, besides its responsiveness to all kinds of mobile devices, is its marriage of Drupal 7 and iMis 20. That’s important because Association Management Systems typically are difficult to integrate with web solutions,” says Leonard.

The new ASCRS site is a leap forward in terms of design and compatibility over the previous site, and that’s a pretty big deal! The website empowers the society’s membership with unprecedented access to update their own information and pay their dues online.
