In a very short time Gogo has become one of the most popular ways that the flying public is connecting online while on flights. A company geared for growth – Gogo made Fast Company’s World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies in 2012 – this expanding technology startup has collaborated with BT since 2011 to provide development assistance.
BT's early work with this Wi-Fi powerhouse included evaluating, converting and adding features to the map API framework used by their FlightTracker service. Some of the key challenges dealt with browser compatibility issues and nasty problems of maps that just stopped working. Uncovering the causes of these snags required deep digging into the app’s diagnostic log, liberal quality assurance testing and a highly collaborative relationship between BT and Gogo team members.
BT, like Gogo, employs Agile development practices. Both are committed to this framework and consider it a must for their projects – one that ensures a high level of quality back-and-forth communication between project members from both companies. Developers on both sides routinely visit each other’s offices to explore solutions and report on progress.
BT continues to develop new features for Gogo's FlightTracker, as well as assist with testing and deployment and a revamp of the Gogo website using the Drupal framework.
