On behalf of Breakthrough Technologies, I am excited and proud to announce that for the third time, we have been placed on the prestigious Inc. 5000 list! We are listed as #1563 in the 2016 list of the country’s fastest-growing companies. Last year we were placed at #4023, so it’s pretty evident that the momentum of Breakthrough Technologies is picking up. It is incredible to continue to see the immense growth that this company experiences every year, and how it has affected the clients and supporters as well.
Even though I have only interned at Breakthrough Technologies for a few weeks so far, I can honestly say that this accomplishment for the company comes as no surprise for me. Experiencing the passion for myself that envelops this office daily has changed my perspective on what a workplace can be. It is no wonder that this company has been among the top 5,000 fastest-growing companies in the country three times since 2013.
The office is filled with intelligent and humble people who were oh-so welcoming to me in different ways. In no time, I felt like I had been working here for months. Those whose desks surround my own greeted me and offered to answer any questions I might have. Even if they didn’t know the answer, they promised that they would gladly direct me to someone who could.
Throughout the summer, I worked as a marketing intern. I was given the opportunity to write case studies on BT’s projects and help find articles to post on Twitter, Facebook, etc. Seeing as two things that I love are writing and social media, this job was pretty perfect for me. It was also an escape from the typical babysitting or ice cream shop work that my peers in high school were doing throughout the break. It’s pretty rare to come across professional opportunities like this one as a high school student, so I was very excited to begin.
One aspect of Breakthrough Technologies that was immediately clear to me is the fact that everyone is treated with equal importance in this office space. In a room filled with over fifty employees, I wasn’t sure how I would fit in for the summer. This was my first job in an office environment, and I thought it would take a while for me to start interviewing coworkers about their projects. This was actually not the case. People like the managing partners, who typically are booked solid almost every day, are willing to make time for everyone, including marketing interns like me who are filled with questions about projects that were completed months ago.
No job is too big or too small at Breakthrough Technologies, and that is the mindset that keeps the company growing. Even running the occasional “typical intern” errand felt fun and important. I was entrusted with making decisions, and my opinion was valued wherever applied. Throughout my internship, I also learned a lot about how to take notes, how to pull important information from documents and interviews, and how to better manage my time.
Although I have been able to see the great accomplishments of Breakthrough Technologies via writing about their projects, what I have not seen is anyone who takes the success for granted. The BT team members are always looking for what’s next. This is what allows Breakthrough Technologies to continue to grow and thrive among some of the top companies in the nation. Methodology
The 2016 Inc. 5000 is ranked according to percentage revenue growth when comparing 2012 to 2015. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2012. They had to be U.S. based, privately held, for profit, and independent -- not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies-- as of December 31, 2015. (Since then, a number of companies on the list have gone public or been acquired.) The minimum revenue required for 2012 is $100,000; the minimum for 2015 is $2 million. As always, Inc. reserves the right to decline applicants for subjective reasons. Companies on the Inc. 500 are featured in Inc.'s September issue.
