BT CAN (Community Action Network) had a very successful event in early June helping pack food for people in need. We took a team of 14 people to Feed My Starving Children (https://www.fmsc.org ) to fill bags of a nutritious rice mixture, weigh them, seal them, and pack them in boxes. Some people were at a filling station while others were labeling bags for future use and others were refilling the ingredients as needed. The food will be sent around the world to areas where nutritious food is scarce.
This event doubled as a BT family event and several spouses and kids participated as well. After packing food we added a fun time eating and playing WhirlyBall. WhirlyBall is like basketball in bumper cars and was really fun! As they say “It is the most fun you can have going 4 miles per hour!”
BT CAN is the philanthropic arm of Breakthrough Technologies and is charged with creating and building for the betterment of our society and our world. This can be in the Evanston/Chicago area or anywhere around the world. Employees and contractors are all encouraged to participate and to share ideas & organizations that are helping others and could use some support – financial or through volunteerism.
BT CAN has a few more events coming this Summer & Fall. We are providing transportation for some field trips that the Girls 4 Science (https://girls4science.org ) Summer Marine Biology STEM Academy will be taking as well as planning an event with the Folded Map Project (https://www.foldedmapproject.com ) that is working to improve communications and relationships between Chicago’s south and north sides! Watch for future posts about those events.
