SPRING THING #2 - CATHY THEYS: GIVING BACK TO THE DRUPAL COMMUNITY IN A TRULY PERSONAL WAY

Updated: May 29, 2019

As you hopefully already know, Breakthrough Technologies is strongly committed to open source in principle, and to Drupal in particular.  We've been a Drupal Association member in the past, and we've sponsored the last few DrupalCons, as well as some local DrupalCamps.

We've talked about finding more and better ways to contribute, but last November (shortly before we decided to spin off our Drupal development team as a shop-within-a-shop) we heard about an opportunity that felt like a perfect fit:

You may already know all about Cathy.  In fact, just about everyone in the world who goes to a Con or a Camp has probably seen or heard from her by now!  We were first introduced by Doug Vann, who Drupals all day long in various capacities -- at Breakthrough, for Pantheon, and on his own.  Since both Breakthrough and Cathy are part of one big, happy Chicagoland Drupal family, and one of our favorite clients is Cathy's home town of Oak Park, Illinois, we felt it was a perfect fit.

And so, as of February 2014, Breakthrough has been sponsoring Cathy for 15 hours per week of doing what she does, "working on Drupal 8, mentoring, sprinting, and talking to others about those things" -- basically, greasing the wheels of making Drupal awesomer.  We're delighted to have a friend like Cathy, and we're grateful to have such a uniquely personal way of giving back to the biggest and best open-source community around.
